List of ingredients & items for Mai tais & magic

Aloha shirt or tiki attire of course! Pirate hats and such fit right in too if you would rather. It's ALWAYS more fun to go to the tiki bar properly adorned!

Things to have ready so that you can participate fully if you would be so inclined:

● Empty glass beer or soda bottle and a dollar bill (paper currency)

Paper and pen or pencil

● Maybe a deck of cards

For the drinks...you can use a double old fashioned glass or similar or your favorite tiki glassor mug.

Original Trader Vic's Mai Tai ingredients:

The rum I will be using Denizen Merchant Reserve 8 Yr Rum This is a blend of a dark Jamaican rum and a Martinique rhum. [You can do something similar if you like and pick your favorite Jamaican rum like Myers’s Rum and a light rum as an alternate]
I am using the Denizen as it is what they are using to re-create the original flavors at the Smuggler’s Cove in San Francisco. They did extensive research and this is a fairly inexpensive, yet perfectly flavored rum for an original Trader Vic's Mai Tai.

A whole lime (or lime Lime Juice) we will use ¾ oz of lime. The peel is used as garnish so fresh is best.

Mint (fresh)

Dry Orange Curaçao (not the blue) [Can substitute with Triple Sec]

Orgeat (almond syrup) [Can substitute simple syrup with almond extract]

Rich Simple Syrup (richer than simple syrup as it’s made from demerara sugar. You can make this yourself with very simple recipes online. Of course you can substitue with reg. simple syrup.

Ice Cubes for shaking &
Crushed Ice for serving

Bar tools:

● A shaker or shaker and mixing glass to combine ingredients and chill them is pretty important but not mandatory.

● A drink strainer (or small wire strainer) if you used a shaker or chilled in another glass.

● a citrus press or juicer for the limes, etc.

● a paring knife to cut the fruit

Mocktail!

Shake and mix with us by substituting the alcohols with black tea (well steeped and chilled). Shake along and add all the garnishes to enjoy the world's BEST iced tea. I call it Mighty Mai Tea!
